Rapid economic growth over the next 40 years predicted for Ukraine
Wednesday, 25 January 2012 13:50
The bank HSBC published its new report “World in 2050” to determine the list of major economies for 2050.

The rating compiled by HSBC is based on the present level of countries’ economic development and other fundamental factors that determine the ability of the countries to catch up with the more developed ones. The factors referred to by researchers are the following: income per capita, demographics, level of legislative base development and democracy, education, and GDP projections to 2050. Working on the rating, the experts proceeded from the assumption that politicians responsible for decision-making will work on eliminating economic difficulties, avoid military conflict, and contribute to creating conditions for global trade development and investment flows.

According to the estimates of HSBC, Ukraine, despite of its negative demographic dynamics, will be able to demonstrate a significant strengthening of the economic position and jump over 19 positions, finishing 40th among the largest economies in the world in 2050. Such a scenario may be enhanced by the Ukrainian system of education and legislative base development. At the same time, the population is likely to decline from today’s 45 million to 36 million people.

Thus Ukraine is expected to become one of the most dynamically growing economies in the world, in company with the Philippines (+27 positions) and Peru (+20 positions).
